Bridgeview's
History

The Community Mental Health Act of 1963, passed as part of John F. Kennedy's New Frontier, established a system of community-based care, instead of institutional care, across the U.S. for people with mental illness. The Mental Health Center of Clinton County was founded in 1969 as one of thirty-two private not-for-profit corporations delivering a wide variety of community-based mental health services to the residents of Iowa. Dr. Huyck was the first administrator and director. He devoted his time to developing trained staff to treat patients within the community and reduce outside hospitalization and allow clients to live successfully in the community. As the years passed, the name of the center changed from the original Mental Health Center of Clinton County to the Heartland Center, to the Clinton County Mental Health Center, to Bridgeview Community Mental Health Center. In August of 2023, Bridgeview affiliated with Bethany for Children & Families.
Affiliation with Bethany for Children & Families
On August 7, 2023, Bridgeview Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) and Bethany for Children & Families became affiliated agencies. The goal of this arrangement is to enhance the operations of both organizations while continuing to provide quality mental health services to the surrounding communities of Eastern Iowa.
